A Whimsical Catholic Children's Book

How I Ended Up Writing

A Catholic Children's Book

Well... I did develop and author over seventy curriculum guides while I worked for Life Teen, but this book came from a much different place. It easily flowed from people watching and then my imagination ...

I was at Church and I noticed quiet women praying.

Mothers gently entertaining restless children.

A businessman kneeling in prayer.

Teenagers dressed in ways that made me smile.

I found myself wondering, "Who are these people?"

What hidden stories had brought them here?

As I drove home, a children's book began unfolding in my imagination and it was exciting! The moment I walked through the door, I opened a Doc and spent twenty minutes writing it down while it was fresh.

At the time, I had no plans to become a children's book author. I simply followed an idea.

Secret Saints in Everyday Life

Over the following weeks, I kept returning to the story. But then, something changed.
What had started as a fun, creative project began to feel like a calling.

I realized the book wasn't just about church ladies.

It was about everyday holiness.

It was about the hidden sacrifices of ordinary people—the mothers who quietly pray for their children, the volunteers who faithfully serve, the grandmothers who never stop believing, and the countless Secret Saints whose lives point others toward Jesus without ever making the headlines.

The Book Has Changed Too

A few months ago, I brought a prototype of the book to a church market. At the time, I honestly believed it was nearly finished. Looking back... It wasn't even close. Since then, every page has grown.

The illustrations have become richer, brighter, and more expressive.

The story now rhymes!

"They settle in their favorite chair,

and whisper yet another prayer."

Most importantly, the book finally feels like the story God placed on my heart from the very beginning.

When I compare the original illustrations with the newest ones, I'm amazed by how much they've grown.

Look at the difference! The characters are more defined and the colors more vivid.

Turns Out It's a Series

As I continued writing, I realized this wasn't just one story. It was the beginning of a series exploring the hidden work of God in everyday life.

Right now, I'm developing:

The Secret Life of Church Ladies — celebrating the quiet faith, prayers, and sacrifices of ordinary women.

The Secret Life of the Girl with the Mismatched Socks — a story about discovering our identity as beloved children of God and learning to live with courage, joy, and purpose.

The Secret Life of the Troubled Teen — a story of hope, healing, and finding God's love in difficult seasons.

Together, these books celebrate what I like to call Secret Saints—ordinary people quietly building the Kingdom of God through faithfulness, friendship, creativity, and play.

October 2026 Publication

I really think The Secret Life of Church Ladies is getting close to publication. I am aiming to be ready to sell at the St. Tim's Pumpkin Patch on October 17th.

If these stories make you smile, would you consider sharing this blog with a friend or signing up for the email list?

Take a sneak peak at a book that reveals the power of standing in our identity as Children of God.

"She's a princess, brave and strong,

because she knows where she belongs.

A princess loved beyond all measure,

a daughter of a king forever."
